Today Josh and I made a day trip to Pristina, Kosovo! Kosovo is recognized as an independent country by 117 countries, with the U.S. being one of its earliest supporters. Serbia still claims Kosovo as part of their country. In Kosovo, they LOVE America and they LOVE the Clintons. In 1999 President Clinton and NATO stepped in and helped Kosovo in their war with Serbia. They declared independence in 2008. There is a ”Bill Klinton Boulevard” with a statue of Clinton and a massive billboard. There is a store dedicated to Hillary Clinton and there are more American flags in Kosovo than a standard American town. We loved seeing all of the little pieces of US culture throughout the city. And after spending 4 months in Europe where Americans are often viewed as dumb tourists, this was a pleasant change

After visiting the Clintons we went to the Cathedral of Saint Mother Teresa and went to the top of the tower for views of the city. We visited their national library which is the building that looks kinda like a prison with big domes on the top. We spent time on Mother Teresa Boulevard and saw the “Newborn” statue celebrating Kosovos independence and the birth of a new country.

Before getting on the bus I saw an adorable cafe that I had to get pictures in. The owner was so excited to find out that we were American that he called over his teenage daughter who spoke English and had her tell us all about how they designed their cafe and took inspiration from America and Western Europe. They even brought us free espresso and we gave them a great view on google maps as requested. Kosovo brings my country count to 27!
